The Democratic Republic of Congo is home to one of the world's most prestigious Arabica coffees — grown on the volcanic highlands of the Kivu and Ituri regions in the East.

Soils enriched by active volcanoes. Altitudes between 1,500 and 2,000 metres. Equatorial climate of the Great Lakes. Every element combines to produce beans of exceptional aromatic complexity — fruity, bright, balanced.

The beans are then artisan-roasted in Uganda — the land where our founder, a Congolese refugee, built his craft — and shipped to Canada to reach Montreal tables.

A story of resilience

From Kyaka camp
to Montreal.

In 2012, Bahati Bertin Matonde leaves the Democratic Republic of Congo. A refugee in Uganda, he founds Self-made Africans in 2013 — an organization that trains young refugees, first through film, then through sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship.

During COVID-19, his project “The Let Be One Show” distributes seeds to more than 5,000 people at the Kyaka II camp. In 2024, Bertin settles in Montreal — Tabar Coffee becomes the continuation of his mission.

  • When exactly is the official launch?

    We are targeting fall 2026 for the launch of the online store. The exact date depends on finalizing our coffee import process and Canadian regulatory approvals (CFIA, SFC). People signed up to the waitlist will be the first notified as soon as a firm date is set.

  • Where will you ship?

    At launch, we will ship across Canada (ten provinces and three territories) from our Montreal distribution point. An extension to the United States is planned in a second phase.

  • What will the prices be?

    Prices will be communicated when we officially open. People signed up to the waitlist will receive the announcement first — plus a special welcome offer reserved for early sign-ups.

  • Can I pre-order now?

    Not yet. We take no payment before the official launch — that is our transparency commitment. Signing up to the waitlist is free and comes with no obligation to buy. You will receive an email as soon as the store opens and can order at that moment.

  • Is my data protected?
