More than coffee.
A decade of resilience.
Born from the journey of a Congolese refugee turned social entrepreneur in Uganda, then founder of a brand in Montreal — Tabar Café carries the story of a man who refused to wait for life to rebuild him.

Black gold
of eastern DR Congo.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is home to one of the most prestigious Arabica coffees in the world — grown on the volcanic highlands of the Kivu and Ituri regions in the east of the country.
Soils enriched by active volcanoes. Altitudes between 1,500 and 2,000 metres. Equatorial Great Lakes climate. Everything comes together to produce beans of exceptional aromatic complexity — fruity, lively, balanced.
The beans are then artisanally roasted in Uganda — where our founder, a Congolese refugee, built his artisanal craft — then shipped to Canada to reach the cups of Montreal.
A story
that inspires.
Self-made Africans, the organization Bertin founded before Tabar Café, has been recognized by the largest humanitarian and media institutions in Uganda.
Self-made Africans is one of the most impactful initiatives we have encountered in refugee camps in Uganda — concrete proof that refugees are not just an assisted population, but a creative force.
Bertin's work on sustainable agriculture and water purification at Kyaka II inspires hundreds of young people to take their destiny back into their own hands. A mission that deeply resonates with our values.
Bahati Bertin Matonde is one of the most committed filmmakers of our generation in Uganda. His films transform mindsets — exactly what Africa needs today.
From bean to cup,
support the mission.
Every bag of Tabar Café directly funds the chain — refugee producers, Ugandan roasters, trees planted, youth trained.
